STANSW awards the 2019 Sports Turf Graduate of the Year
Sports Turf NSW Association is delighted to announce Andrew Hodgson as the NSW winner of the 2019 Sports Turf Graduate of the Year Award.
“We really enjoy meeting the graduates nominated for the award, to hear their views and have them present their achievements and career goals,” said Sports Turf Association NSW President Chris Chapman. “By providing opportunities to mentor and support the best and brightest helps ensure our industry will grow the next generation of leaders.”
Growing up around bowling greens and the horse racing industry, and tagging along at a young age with his renowned turf manager father, as soon as Andrew worked out he could combine his love of sports with a career in sports turf management, he dedicated himself to his future career.
Andrew’s strong academic achievements are echoed by his TAFE NSW Sports Turf Management teacher, Evan James “It was obvious from day one that he was very bright, but what really impressed me was that he kept his standards up, right through the course. His assignment was work was exemplary and always on time.”
Andrew has been employed by Green Options for 4 years, working at the Central Coast Stadium, along with other venues, helping to prepare the pitch for A-League Soccer, NRL various concerts, and Nitro Circus, all of which bring a separate skill set and appreciation for the craft.
Ben Matheson, Contracts Coordinator for Green Options wasn’t surprised on hearing of Andrew’s award, and added: “I have no doubt with Andrew’s dedication and drive, he will achieve his goal of becoming a stadium manager or whatever he sets his mind to.”
The National Sports Turf Association Graduate Award Program is annual event sponsored by Toro Australia. The national judging panel will convene later this year to interview all state nominees.
The winner will be awarded prize including an educational trip to the US, including facility tours entry to the Toro USA Sports Field and Grounds Forum.
